What’s the Truth Behind the 420 Holiday?

As we read earlier, the 20th of April is a national holiday for marijuana lovers. The holiday in which the pot smokers light up when it’s 4:20 pm. You must wonder how it started and why on the 20th of April and not any other day? Let us break it down for you.

It started at one of the high schools in northern California. There was a group of friends responsible for the 420 holidays. In the early 70s, they studied in a high school and often hung out near a wall outside the school. That’s how they got their nickname from—the Waldos. One day, they looked at one of the treasure maps and saw where the marijuana grows. They decided to go there after school. They claimed that it was difficult to get the weed back in the days, unlike today, where you can easily get all kinds of weed from the weed dispensary shop. That’s why they were excited to go there and get free weed. Unfortunately, they never found it.

Why is it called 420 specifically?

Although they couldn’t find that spot, when they were planning to visit that place, they decided to meet at 4:20 pm to discuss the plan and named it “4:20 Louis”. After some of the failed attempts to find where the marijuana grows, the group of friends started using only “420”. It became of the codeword, which they referred to as getting high. This codeword started spreading in different colleges, cities and countries. And, now you can see 420 almost everywhere.

Conclusion

The 420 Holiday has always had a motive which was the legalization of marijuana. However, that has been accomplished in Canada. Cannabis is legal all over Canada now. But, in the United States, there are some states which prohibit the use of cannabis. Since there are a lot of medical benefits of using cannabis, a large number of people are leaning towards using cannabis for treating chronic problems.
